Art is a marvelous journey that encompasses many fields and techniques. It is indeed a journey because what matters here is not where we end up, but the new adventures we gain along the way. The essence of the matter is to be inspired and to inspire. This blog post is a corner dedicated to an inspiring and remarkable artist.
Leading the impressive rise of hyperrealism is the creative artist Bill Braun, who has developed unique methods over his more than 25-year artistic journey and has recently gained considerable attention in the art community. Among his colorful landscape drawings and still lifes, the work that defines Braun is his use of the ‘trompe l’oeil’ technique. This creative technique, which has a history that dates back quite far, is French for "to deceive the eye." It is a type of painting that convinces the viewer that they are looking at three-dimensional objects rather than a two-dimensional plane.
We can't say that Braun is just doing this because he does much more. His works, which at first glance may look like a child's art assignment, are actually masterful drawings created with crumpled construction paper, masking tape, and staples. These illusions are so well executed that no matter how close you get to the painting, it appears as if a taped figure might suddenly fall to the ground, making it difficult for viewers to believe it is a drawing.
Although the trompe l’oeil technique was initially used in painting, its impact quickly grew and even became one of the favored techniques in the fashion world. This technique, which started to be seen in the fashion industry alongside surrealism, was first exemplified by a name you would not be surprised to hear: Elsa Schiaparelli. After Schiaparelli introduced this deceptive method into the fashion world, the already creative sector was further opened up, leading to a significant expansion of creativity in various directions.
